Signpost Digital Brings Digital Signage to Kidz Country in Mahopac

Signpost Digital just finished a digital signage project for Laurie Lee Ford, Director and Owner of Kidz Country that was part of their front office renovation that was completed this July. Ford was interested in one of Signpost Digital’s digital in-store displays to provide information about the day care center to parents as well as show photographs of the more than 300 children they care for on a daily basis.

We provided Ford with “Good”, “Better”, “Best” options so she could decide which solution best meets her short and long term goals as well as her financial requirements. In the end, Ford decided to go with our “Good” solution which consisted of a 42″ Plasma HDTV and an ultra-thin wall mount. As much as we try to encourage our clients to use commercial grade LCD displays there are many benefits to using a consumer display. With so many consumer displays on the market, you can’t really beat the price. Originally we were planning to use a 32″ HDTV but at the last minute found a 42″ HDTV for only $50 more and included additional digital signage benefits.

Another benefit of using a consumer display is they typically include media software that allows the TV to play photos, music and in some cases video from an SD card or USB drive. We typically use a separate media player to store and manage the content displayed on the screen but for this application a separate media player was not required.

Since most of the content will be photographs, David Vogel, owner of Signpost Digital, worked together with Laurie’s daughter, Kayde Ford to develop a workflow to get the hundreds of digital photos up on the screen. It is important to make sure the aspect ratio of the photos and the setting on the TV are set properly or the photos will be distorted.

In the end, we were able to provide Kidz Country with an digital in-store solution that met all of their needs for well under $700. All of our solutions are scalable so as their needs grow, their digital signage solution can grow with them.

Signpost Digital Inc. worked with Dr. Morris Glassman, a well respected Yorktown-based Ophthalmogist to create a public service announcement to educate local residents about eye care and eye disease prevention.  David Vogel and Dr. Morris Glassman came up with a quiz that demystifies many of the myths about our eyes and vision.

For 38 years, Dr. Morris Glassman has been providing eye care to generations of local residents at Northern Westchester Ophthalmology located at 1940 Commerce Street in Yorktown Heights.

Dr. Glassman chose to use Signpost Digital's local advertising network to help educate local residents about eye care.  A regular eye exam by an Ophthalmologist can diagnose easily treatable eye diseases before they damage your eyes.  A routine eye exam by an eye doctor can even diagnose diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments.

What is digital signage and can my company afford it?

In a world where information is ubiquitous and consumers are hesitant to invest in a product without first doing some research, it’s no wonder that businesses are looking for new ways to reach customers.

In fact, more and more businesses are replacing traditional signage such as posters, flyers and billboards and are increasingly turning to digital signage, which is any digital screen that delivers information, entertainment or advertising to consumers at the right time and at the right place. As a result, businesses are seeing increased revenue, foot traffic and customer retention.

For years, digital signage was something that only large corporations utilized in their retail stores because they had the financial and technical resources to implement it. With the proliferation of high definition content and the demand for HD displays, the cost has dropped considerably in price, making this a viable option for the small business. The technology has also gotten simpler to use with signage solutions that in most instances are plug-and-play.

Many small businesses are now discovering ways of using these inexpensive displays to create digital signage solutions using existing hardware and software. There is no reason why you can’t use a digital photo frame, a DVD player or a PC playing a PowerPoint presentation to promote your products and services. Even though these are great starting points, I don’t necessarily recommend consumer products be used long term. None of these devices were ever intended for continuous daily use and will most likely fail prematurely and unexpectedly.

For example, the Intermediate School in the Somers School District connected a personal computer playing a PowerPoint presentation to a 42” LCD display in the lobby of their school to create their own digital signage solution. Was this the best solution? No. But it didn’t cost them anything and they achieved their goal of providing information about the school to the students, teachers and parents. In the end they realized this solution had limited functionality and wasn’t easy to manage.

For less than $500, we found a solution that offered greater functionality, was easy to use and had no recurring costs. They were now able to display text, images and video in different areas of the screen, schedule the content so that the right information was being seen at the right time, able to manage the content remotely and allowed them to return the PC back to valuable office use.

As you can see, it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to add digital signage to your business. There are hundreds of choices currently available. We help small businesses find ways of using digital signage to improve communication with customers and increase sales by offering an affordable digital signage solution.
